Hi, I'm John Brazendale, welcome to my 'Cloud Studio' website. I'm continuing to make large ceramic pieces for both house and garden which this year are inspired by lily forms growing together in small groups. I'm planning 'flat jugs' in a variety of shapes and sizes which hopefully will have 'attitude'. White will be my prominent colour.
Colourful glazes are used to emphasise surface patterns and textures. Recent themes of Clouds, Jungle, Landscape, The Sea, & Still Life continue to be developed along with Architectural Forms, Trees and Shells. Middle Eastern Flask Jars and Stemmed Bowls have been introduced this year. My ideas have been pushed forward using new methods of surface decoration. Georgio Morandi & Ben Nicholson have certainly influenced my work. The application of glaze has always enthused me, especially the practice of applying several layers, then rubbing away to reveal colours underneath, rather like 'Grattage'. This has produced some exciting results. You can visit my studio throughout the year by appointment, just email or give me a ring. During May 'The Cloud Studio' is open as part of West Berks & North Hants Open Studios scheme, please see the CONTACT page for details. I look forward to welcoming you to see work in progress or to view work on display.
